Kiln Drying

Heat treatment alters the cellular structure of the wood, reduces the equilibrium moisture and renders the wood less susceptible to re-absorbing moisture from the air.

Advantage of kiln dried Timber

    1.    Removes most of the natural sugars and resins which can act as nutrients for decay -causing bacteria.

    2.    The expulsion of water means that the wood is less prone to wraping.

    3.    Improves the insulation properties of the timber.

    4.    Makes it 15% lighter, thereby much easier to handle on sites.

Air Drying

Air Drying is the traditional method for seasoning wood. The boards are stacked evenly on stickers. They are built well away from the ground in a sheltered position and protected from rain and direct sunlight. The natural airflow through the stack gradually dries the wood.
